It’s like Florida in 2000 here

The nominations for the National Real Estate Blog Brawl are in, and we’re compiling the list of 32 contenders. Lemme tell you, it’s not as simple as you’d think.

First of all, there are all those alternative spellings (smithrealty.com vs. smithrealty.com/blog vs. blog.smithrealty.com). Then there are the misspellings — did this person mean to nominate greenerealty.com or greenrealestate.com? It’s like examining hanging chads.

Luckily I figured out how to get Excel to count the number of times an entry appeared, making vote-sorting simpler. But not simple; there are a handful of slots going to blogs that only got one vote, so there’s the timestamp to consider. (First come, first served.)

Finally, there’s the Ben Test™: Is it a true blog? Is it a real estate blog? Is there at least one Realtor® contributing? That’s what we’re verifying now before we release the final list of Brawlers. (At least one didn’t pass the Test. Heh.)

More in a moment….
