Commonwealth contest instructions

You know you want itIf you’ve got your copy of the March/April Commonwealth magazine, you know what this is about. (Turn to page 40 if you’re still unsure.)

Here are your instructions:

  • The five questions in the magazine all have numbers as answers.
  • Add the numbers.
  • Subtract 1.
  • What’s half of that remaining number? Turn to that page in the magazine.
  • What song does the phrase on top of the page come from? That is the answer to the puzzle.
(For example, if the phrase was "I can still remember how that music used to make me smile" the answer would be "American Pie.")

BUT WAIT. Last issue we had you fax in your answers, which annoyed all the techies out there. So as a nod to them…

To qualify to win the Flip Mino HD video camera, you must write the final answer on a piece of paper and e-mail a picture of yourself holding that paper to VAR’s editor and information manager. His address is in the magazine. The answer must be clearly visible in the photo. Be sure to include you name, phone number, and shipping address.

ONE FINAL TWIST: We will only accept entries that arrive on Thursday, May 7, 2009 (midnight to midnight, Eastern Daylight Time — that’s to give everyone a chance to get their magazine and shoot the photo). Too early or too late, and you’re out.

We’ll take all the correct answers sent at the right time and pick one at random to receive the video camera.

Any questions?
