Commonwealth contest — final instructions CORRECTED

Jeremy Litwiller pointed out a small but crucial problem with the instructions given for solving the Commonwealth Contest puzzle. That may explain the lack of entries, but we did receive one correct answer.

So here are the corrected instructions:

It could be yours! Got your copy of the March/April Commonwealth magazine? Got the answers to the contest on page 42? Ready to win a Garmin nuvi 1300 GPS?

Then let’s go to it!

It’s a bit more complex than usual because that GPS is extra cool. No tricks; just follow the instructions.

All your magazine answers are numbers.

1. Add them, except for the smallest number.

2. Divide the result by that smallest number. If there’s a remainder, ignore it.

Take the first two digits. Call this number X.

3. Separately, add answers 2, 3, and 4. Call this number Y.

4. Go to page X. Count faces. Who is face number Y?

(For example, if X is 28 and Y is 6, you would turn to page 28 and see whose face is number 6.)

E-mail the magazine’s editor with the answer: Who is face number Y?

We’ll take all correct answers submitted by 11:59 PM, Monday, May 10, 2010 and draw one at random. The winner gets the GPS.

Good luck!
