Melanie Thompson, broker/owner of Century 21 AdVenture in Fredericksburg, VA received the 2010 “Realtor of the Year” award during the annual Convention of the Virginia Association of REALTORS® (VAR) in Virginia Beach, VA.

Realtor of the Year recognizes faithfulness to principles of organized real estate, laws and the Realtor Code of Ethics; efforts to encourage good real estate practice and to inform the public about the real estate profession; and participation in civic activities and local, state and national Realtor organizations. Selection is based on the recipient’s achievements in the real estate industry, activity in community and civic affairs, involvement with Realtor Association work, and business and educational experience.

A member of the Fredericksburg Area Association of Realtors (FAAR), Thompson served as their president in 2007.  She holds the GRI (Graduate, Realtor Institute) designation, and was president of VAR in 2007.  In 2008, she was appointed to the Virginia Housing Commission.

A Realtor since 1981, Thompson is a long-time and active volunteer.  She chaired and directed the foundation of FAAR’s Real Estate Career Academy, and also steered development of the Virginia Realtor Leadership Academy for VAR.  She has served on several National Association of Realtors (NAR) committees and is currently a member of NAR’s board of directors.

In the local area, Thompson is a volunteer for the Fredericksburg Chamber of Commerce, March of Dimes/Easter Seals, Fredericksburg Area Realtors Foundation, and Fredericksburg Area Builders Association.
