Tim Kaine announces Senate bid

imageFormer Virginia governor Tim Kaine resigned his post as chair of the Democratic National Committee to run for the U.S. Senate seat that will be vacated by Jim Webb. (Webb previously announced that he will not seek reelection.)

A March 2 poll showed Kaine and former governor George Allen (who lost the race for the Senate to Webb in 2006, and who announced his candidacy in February) in a dead heat for the position.
