Virginia tornado victims need you

Tornados hit Southwest Virginia, too, and towns there need your help.

Last week we told you about the appeal from your compatriots in Alabama, where tornados devastated hundreds of homes and families. What got less attention were the twisters that struck Southwest Virginia and Northern Tennessee.

155415Glade Spring — between Abingdon and Wytheville — was struck by at least one EF3 tornado (the scale goes from EF1 to EF5), killing at least three people and destroying dozens of homes and buildings; nearby Chilhowie was hit by an EF2 twister. The photo at right, courtesy, shows the aftermath in Glade Spring.

You can help. Please do.

The American Red Cross’s Mountain Empire Chapter [click here] is taking donations specifically for this disaster.

So is the United Way of Russell and Washington Counties [click here]. You can also text SUPPORT to 27722 to make a $10 donation.

Yes, we know we’ve asked you to help before, and we’re going to ask again — and we have faith that you’ll be there. It’s part of the American spirit and the Realtor spirit: We help. Thank you, from us at VAR, and at the Southwest Virginia Association of Realtors.
