Housing starts rise more than expected in January

To continue today’s stat-filled morning, the Commerce Department Census Bureau reports that housing starts were up 1.5% from December 2011 to January 2012, beating analysts expectations.

While multi-family homes have been the bigger driver, the total number of housing starts has been increasing steadily since early 2011.
